Our music helps celebrate youth, culture & community-building. We especially love to put our youth in concert with local musicians of color. Paid performances are an earned-income strategy for the non-profit; all proceeds go into our scholarship fund. Donated performances may be provided for events that align with our mission if performance honorariums are unavailable.

This is who we are:

DYV teaches youth ages 3-18 to play violin using the world-class Suzuki method & social justice pedagogies to nurture students' creativity, perseverance, collaborative skills & empathy for others.

Both as a community of people and a non-profit, we strive to function as an anti-racist, pro-Black organization through our practices inside and outside of the classroom.

Collaborations with local artists as guest instructors develop positive cultural identities in our students as Detroiters and as youth of color (applicable to the majority of our students). Check out our Special Projects from past years resulting in albums celebrating hip hop, jazz, techno, and Detroit Voices.

Since 2010, DYV has made quality arts education free & accessible to low-income families, especially youth from Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Paying and scholarship students alike receive the same excellent music education.
